THE PROCLAIMERS HEADLINE BBC ALBA’S EXCLUSIVE HEBCELT 2012 FESTIVAL COVERAGE

The Proclaimers and Kassidy will be amongst the headline acts on our screens next week as BBC ALBA provide exclusive coverage of the 2012 HebCelt Festival.
Award winning presenter Niall Iain Macdonald will introduce two shows from the main stage at Lews Castle Green, Stornoway, on Thursday 12 July and Friday 13 July.
Thursday’s programme, to be shown from 10.00pm until 11.30pm, will feature performances from the opening night of the festival including a live headline set from hit Glaswegian quartet Kassidy, who released their second album One Man Army in April - the follow-up to debut smash Hope St.
That set will be complemented by a recorded performance from the internationally acclaimed trad-rock band Skerryvore, who have just released their fourth LP World of Chances, an album partly recorded at the iconic Fisher Lane studios in Surrey.
BBC ALBA coverage of Friday’s event will be shown from 9.45pm until 11.45pm and the programme will include a look at some of the best aspects of the 17th HebCelt Festival beyond the main stage.
Following this, recorded highlights will come from Admiral Fallow, who continue to receive widespread plaudits following the release of second album Tree Bursts In Snow.
They will be followed onto the stage by The Proclaimers, who will need little introduction to festival-goers and BBC ALBA viewers following a string of worldwide hit singles and albums in a career spanning nearly 30 years.
Fresh from the release of their new album, Like Comedy, BBC ALBA will provide full live coverage as brothers Craig and Charlie Reid take to the stage as part of a string of summer dates.
Ticket sales thus far indicate this year’s HebCelt will be one of the most popular in the festival’s 17 year history so the only way for those without a ticket to enjoy some of the best performances throughout the festival will be on BBC ALBA, which is available on Freeview channel 8, Virgin Media channel 188, Sky channel 168 and Freesat channel 110.
Alan Esslemont, Head of Content for BBC ALBA, said: “We are delighted to be broadcasting two very exciting programmes from this year’s HebCeltFest 2012. The festival, which brilliantly showcases both flourishing and established talent, is a firm favourite for festival goers from across Scotland, the rest of the UK and beyond.
“Given HebCelt’s undoubted popularity, we are pleased to be offering the festival to a wider audience through our coverage enabling them to enjoy the best from this unique event.”
Caroline Maclennan, HebCelt festival director said: “We are thrilled that BBC ALBA is featuring HebCelt in these two shows. Our unique setting will provide a wonderful backdrop for the TV coverage which will also showcase to a wider audience the richness and diversity of the festival and the wider Hebrides.”
