Biography

MASTERS OF LETTERS MASTERS OF LETTERS is a collective formed by the students of the MLitt in Fine Art Practice at The Glasgow School of Art (GSA). Our main objective is to give visibility and support to those enrolled in this exciting new post-graduate programme, as well as raise funds for exhibitions in London and further afield. In addition, Masters of Letters constitutes a forum for the students for interdisciplinary peer critique and discussions on conceptual, aesthetic and philosophical issues, further reinforcing the balanced nature of the programme itself. The collective has already setup and organized exhibitions, shows and fund-raising events throughout 2012. Our most successful venture so far has been the Limited Edition Print Box Set, which raised £12,000 in the space of two weeks. It consisted of 20 box sets of a limited edition of 20 prints showcasing each student’s practice and covering a wide spectrum of printing techniques: etching, lithography, screen print, laser cut, linocut, woodcut, digital print, embossment and photography. The project culminated in an exhibition at The Glasgow School of Art from 7th to 16th of June 2012 during the GSA Degree Show. We received a prestigious accolade from British Airways who acquired a set to be displayed at their Lounge at Glasgow Airport. Masters of Letters will be represented in four shows this coming Autumn. Our Degree Show will take place from August 31st to September 9th at The Glasgow School of Art, in the Mackintosh Building. It will be followed by an exhibition at the Lighthouse in Glasgow from September 14th to 28th 2012. Our third major collective event will take place in London at the Bermondsey Project Space (established by the Bow Arts Trust and located near the new White Cube Gallery). From October 26th to November 11th 2012, the space will host an exhibition of works reflecting the cohesive yet multi-faceted dynamic of our class. A collaboration with the Master of Fine Arts students of the University of Art and Design in Helsinki will lead to a show next November in Helsinki. The exhibition is part of a space-swap initiative between the artists.
