1. What is ScottishCultureOnline?
ScottishCultureOnline is a website designed to promote the culture of Scotland. It was launched on the 31st October 2011 and aims to promote all forms of Scottish culture from music to theatre and anything else you can think off. The site looks to the future while referencing the past. I like to think of it as a past, present and future archive where visitors will be able to see what is going on now and look back at the past in photos, videos and comments.

2. How do I take part?
You can take part by browsing our groups, events and archive. However if you become a member you can join groups and events, get emails when new materials are added and comment and take part in discussions.

3. How do I become a member?
By clicking here. Put in your details and click ‘Complete Sign Up’. You will be sent an email confirming you email address. Click on the link in the email to validate your account. Then your off!

4. What happens when I become a member?
You can join groups and events, get emails when new materials are added and comment and take part in discussions.

5. How do I join a group?
Once you are a member visit the groups page and search for your favourites or simply browse. Once you find a group you like click ‘Join Group’. For then on when the group is updated (new events/videos etc) you will receive and email.

6. Should I create a group?
Create a group if you have your own band, organisation, venue etc. To this you can add events, videos, photos, albums etc. You can get your fans to join up and keep them updated with all your news. All events go into our events guide as well.

7. What’s the difference between a member and a group?
You need to be a member to join a group. A group can be a band or an organisation and a member is like a fan or a user.

8. What is an event?
An event is a concert or summer school or festival. An event is linked to a member or a group. For example – A folk club would be a group and their weekly visiting artist would be an event. The event goes into our event guide for people to see and read.

9. How do I create an event?
Visit the Events page and click on Create Event. Fill in all the details including the destination in ‘Where will it be held?’. This links to Google Maps and if you click on ‘Display Map’ the map will show in the Event. If you are linking the event to a group, select the group from the ‘associated group’ drop down box. Make sure ‘Approve registrations automatically?’ is clicked. Make the event look good by adding an image. Click on ‘Set featured image’ and a box will come up. Upload an image from your hard disk, add a title, click ‘featured image’, click save and it will be inserted into event. Scroll back up the stage and click publish to make the event public.

10. Can I edit an event once it is published?
Yes. Visit the event (make sure you are logged in) and look for the line that reads “Home | Activity | Edit | Registered | Send | Invites | Comments”. Click on ‘Edit’ and change your details. Scroll back up the page and click Update.

11. Can I revisit an event after it happened and comment on it?
Yes! We would love you to do this. This is one of the reasons we set up ScottishCultureOnline. We want you to go to the gigs mentioned here and then come back and open the event Activity. Here you can write a review, upload photos and videos. All this information will go into our archive and be available for folks to read and view for years to come.

12. How do I upload a video?
Go to the Archive, click on videos and you will be taken to the video page. From there click on ‘Create New Video’. Fill in the fields in page making sure the title is informative. Write a description of the video in the large text box. Below the large box select Group name from the drop down box and then insert the URL of YouTube video in the text box below. Please do not insert YouTube embed code anywhere on the page. All you need is the URL from address bar or the sharing URL available under YouTube video on YouTube page. Scroll back to the top and click Publish.

13. I don’t have a YouTube account. How do I upload my videos?
We can upload your video to our own YouTube account – ScotlandsCulture. To do this please take your finished video and upload it to our dropbox. Please make sure your video has been shot in as light a room as possible with the best possible sound. Before uploading your file please make sure it is named member_group_filename

14. How do I upload music?
First you need to Create an Album. It doesn’t have to an actual CD – it could be a demo or simply a name for a collection of songs. Fill in all the fields and remember to link it to your group by picking your group from the Group Name dropdown box. Upload an image by clicking on ‘Set featured image’ and a box will come up. Upload an image from your hard disk, add a title, click ‘featured image’, click save and it will be inserted into event. Scroll back to the top and click Publish.

Now you have an album you can upload music to it. Click on Create New Song and fill in details. In ‘Music Details’ select your album from dropdown list. Next if you have your audio file hosted elsewhere paste in the URL (making sure it has a file extension). If the file is on your hard disk click on ‘Browse’, select the file and upload it. When you’re finished scroll back to the top and click Publish. Now you will have an album full of songs linked to your group.

15. How can I hear the music?
When you click on the album – either from archive or from group page – you will see the play button (sideways triangle). Click on it and you will hear the track. If there is no music uploaded to the album there will be no play button. If you click on ‘Open Player’ you will hear a list of all the music on the site.

16. Can I upload videos/events/albums to my member profile?
Yes. To do this don’t pick at Group from the dropdown list.

17. What’s the difference between and album and music?
An album is a collection of songs and information. Music is what you can hear in the album.

18. Can I share stuff on Facebook and Twitter?
