Fair treatment for musicians travelling on planes with their instruments petition

June 21, 2012 in News by Simon Thoumire

The International Federation of Musicians (FIM) has launched a petition to put pressure on the EU to amend regulations so that there is fair treatment for musicians travelling with their instruments on planes.

The petition has already reached 11,000+ but the more signatures the greater the likelihood of persuading the EU Commissioner responsible to act.

Just a few months ago we saw the U.S. Congress introduce a uniform national policy regarding musical instruments on airplanes – we want to see similar action in Europe. The problem is that existing law allows each airline to set their own policy regarding musical instruments. British Airways have recently changed their policies to the detriment of musicians. We need uniformity and fairness across the whole sector

The International Federation of Musicians is the only NGO representing musicians’ trade unions, guilds and professional associations at global level, with member organisations in about 65 countries.
