Scottish Traditional Music Summer School

Age: 10 – 18 yrs, £10 for the two days *
Beginners (6mths exp of instrument +) and Intermediate Musicians: Fiddle, guitar,
whistle / flute, bodrhan, accordion.
Advanced Musicians: All trad instruments welcome.

Aimed at musicians of all levels, from beginners (6mths exp of instrument plus) to
advanced, the Tolbooth / RCS Traditional Music Summer School will offer you an
opportunity to play traditional music for the first time or to develop and improve your
playing and knowledge of traditional music alongside other young musicians and some of
Scotland’s finest traditional musicians and tutors. Tutors include Daniel Thorpe and
Sarah Dawodu (fiddle), Innes Watson (guitar), Fiona MacAskill (accordion) and Claire
Mann (flute / whistle). These workshops are open to all. You do not need to be a
member of either the Tolbooth or RCS Traditional Music Workshops to attend. There will
be an informal performance on the final day from 4pm – 5pm.
*The Jazz and Traditional Music Summer Schools are £10 for two days and are
subsidised by the Youth Music Initiative. The Summer Schools are free to any children
who receive free school meals. Please mention this when booking (proof will need to be
shown at Box Office when attending the first day). Children need to bring their own
instruments and a packed lunch each day.
